Claremont McKenna College

Robert Day Sciences Center

M3 CMC 17

The Challenge

Claremont McKenna College’s Robert Day Sciences Center was designed to support open, collaborative, and interdisciplinary learning. Spaces are highly visible and continuously in use, requiring furniture that can adapt to multiple teaching styles while maintaining performance in a high-traffic academic environment.

The Approach

We aligned the furniture strategy with the building’s dynamic, connected design—prioritizing flexibility, durability, and visual consistency. Solutions were selected to support quick transitions between teaching modes while performing reliably in spaces designed for constant use.

Key Solutions

Flexible Layouts
Furniture that supports quick reconfiguration for lecture, discussion, and group work.

Durability for Daily Use
Materials and products selected to maintain performance in high-use environments.

Support for Collaboration + Focus
Spaces designed to accommodate both group interaction and individual work.

The Outcome

The completed environments support a more flexible and collaborative approach to learning—delivering spaces that adapt to evolving teaching styles while maintaining a consistent, high-quality campus experience.
